Heavy Lift Survey: 130-Ton Pulp Drums in Kemi
Our team carried out a project cargo surveyor assignment involving the loading of pulp drums at the Port of Kemi, Finland. Each drum weighed approximately 130 tons, making this a demanding heavy lift operation requiring precision and expertise.
As the appointed marine surveyor, we were responsible for several critical stages of the operation: preload survey, transfer and lifting supervision, and cargo securing inspection.

Full Oversight from Start to Finish
Before loading, we conducted a detailed preload survey to assess the condition of the cargo and ensure it was ready for safe transportation. Each pulp drum was carefully inspected, and any observations were documented and communicated to all relevant parties.
During the transfer and lifting operations, our surveyors were on-site to supervise handling, ensuring that all procedures were carried out safely, in accordance with the cargo handling plan, and using the appropriate lifting equipment.
Once the drums were on board, we verified that all units were properly positioned and secured according to the approved lashing and stowage plans. Special attention was paid to stability, separation, and securing methods, considering the heavy weight and unique characteristics of the cargo.
